Bill is a paramedic, registered nurse, and certified recovery specialist in sustained recovery from opioid use disorder. Bill worked for decades in the pre-hospital arena as well as an academic urban emergency department and intensive care unit. He has a particular interest in consolidating the plethora of research on substance use disorder into an easily digestible format for health care practitioners in an effort to decrease and abolish the stigma associated with the disorder.
Bill is active in the recovery community, frequently fielding phone calls from individuals still suffering and supporting friends in recovery. He speaks often to area medical students, nurses and physicians about his past experience in active addiction, his road to recovery, and his current hurdles as he works to regain his professional license through a state health professional monitoring program.
Bill has written articles that have been published in peer reviewed journals, produced several short videos about his recovery, has been featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer and USA Today for his advocacy, and he is active on social media tweeting about recovery at @billkinkle.
Bill is also the co-host of the Health Professionals in Recovery show which can be found on all podcast platforms and at www.healthprosinrecovery.com
